Duration

For the Region of Peel, GPA is conducting an Age-friendly Planning Built Environment Assessment. This work will support the implementation of ROPA 27, which added age-friendly planning and healthy built environment policies to the Regional Official Plan. The project will assess housing diversity and affordability, transportation options, universal accessibility, land use mix (with the goal of complete communities), and human and health services to identify gaps and opportunities to better support older Peel residents. The scope of work includes demographic and spatial analysis to form a detailed understanding of seniors’ characteristics and settlement patterns within Peel Region. Next we will develop an audit tool with locally-relevant criteria to assess the age-friendliness of neighbourhoods and perform audits on sample neighbourhoods. The neighbourhood audits will inform a series of recommendations for the sample neighbourhoods and Peel Region. We will also investigate how to operationalize these recommendations within municipal governments. Consultation will occur at various points during the project to produce public and stakeholder inputs.
