Location
Toronto
Duration
2007-2008
GPA staff worked on a team led by Young + Wright Architects to prepare a planning framework for the area along Lawrence Avenue East between Victoria Park Ave and Birchmount Rd which is identified as an Avenue in the City’s Official Plan. The purpose of the study was to prepare a vision for future re-development along this arterial, to guide its transformation into a mixed-use corridor and to develop an implementation program to achieve this vision. The area is significant in Toronto in that it contains a wide variety of unique food related enterprises that draw customers from across the City. The study built on this area character to produce a vision that includes ground related retail, an improved pedestrian environment and mixed income housing. GPA staff prepared the final report which included detailed recommendations for amending the policy framework for the area, urban design guidelines, proposed improvements to the street right of way and zoning initiatives to implement the policy.
