Duration

2008-2008

GPA staff led the research and development of recommendations for air quality policies as part of a discussion paper for Peel Region’s Official Plan review. The discussion paper served as a primer on air quality in Peel. It provided a summary of the federal and provincial policy and regulatory frameworks, and initiatives and policies currently in place in Peel Region. It included an overview of air quality pollutants, sources and impacts and, in association with Golder Associates, an assessment of the current air quality situation in Peel Region. It put Peel Region efforts on air quality in their regional, national and international context through an in-depth exploration of the approaches used by other jurisdictions, including Toronto, Hamilton, Halton Region, Metro Vancouver and the Greater London Authority. In addition to a series of policy recommendations, the discussion paper explored approaches to implementation and some of the more innovative tools and initiatives that might be useful in augmenting Peel’s approach to air quality.
